Helsinki is one of the most famous smart mobility cities in the world. Agile trials and new openings have cemented Helsinki’s position as a thought leader and a frontline piloting city. In particular, Helsinki is the birthplace of the Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) concept.
Forum Virium Helsinki is an innovation company, fully owned by the City of Helsinki. It co-creates urban futures with companies, universities, other public sector organizations and Helsinki residents. Forum Virium Helsinki’s mission is to make Helsinki the most functional smart city in the world.
The main focus areas are smart mobility, IoT, data, wellbeing, and urban living. Forum Virium’s portfolio includes several automated mobility, urban logistics, MaaS, and related projects on the road, marine and airborne. City of Helsinki and Forum Virium are the forerunner in piloting self-driving shared mobility in urban environments. First pilot took place in 2015 and since then there have been several others.
The role of Forum Virium is to bring organisations, groups and individuals together and involve them in discussion of regulatory issues. The objective is to influence legal processes in the BSR area and EU level in order to lower barriers in the business environment.
Main tasks are:
- Network building between stakeholders
- Helping stakeholders to share information amongst themselves
- Creating and delivering the key message to stakeholders • Supporting the communications and dissemination in the whole project level
